Jaume Salom
Líder del grup Climate Neutral and Resilient Buildings and Communities (IREC)
Dr. Jaume Salom is the group leader of the Climate Neutral and Resilient Buildings and Communities (REACT), formerly the Thermal Energy and Building Performance group (ETE) at IREC – Catalonia Institute or Energy Research. Dr. Salom has a relevant experience leading and participating in international and national research and development (R+D) projects in the field of building physics and simulation of energy systems. Since the creation of its research group at IREC in 2010 relevant work has been done in the field of energy efficiency in buildings, the concept of Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs), load match and grid interaction and energy modelling in at neighbourhood scale. He has participated as national expert in several tasks / annexes of the IEA (International Energy Agency) as the joint IEA SHC Task 40 – ECBCS Annex 52 “Towards Zero Energy Solar Buildings“ and the IEA EBC Annex 67 “Energy flexible Buildings”. In its previous position in AIGUASOL, Dr. Salom promoted the use of energy simulation tools like TRNSYS, Meteonorm, EES, being also the leading person in the development of TRANSOL 3.0 (Software for the design solar thermal systems). Dr. Salom is co-founder of AIGUASOL (in 1999), where he also participated in several consultancy, engineering and research projects, Research interest of Dr. Jaume Salom in the last year was centred on improving modelling techniques for refurbishment of the building stock, implication of the Net Zero Energy Building concept, their interaction with the energy grids, both electric and thermal grid, and urban modelling at neighbourhood scale. His group has been participating in more than twelve international projects on these topics. To name the most recent ones: SYN.IKIA – Sustainable Plus Energy Neighbourhoods (H2020 GA: 869918), ARV – Climate positive circular communities (H2020-LC-GD-2020-101036723) or MAKING PEDs (leaded project – DUT-2022-186. He also has leaded the research topic on Green IT being the coordinator of the EU project RenewIT (Advanced concepts and tools for renewable energy supply of IT Data Centres, Nº 608679). His group has designed and it is the responsible to run a 1st world-class laboratory named SEILAB – Semi-virtual Energy Integration Laboratory where HVAC, IT and energetic systems can be tested under realistic operational conditions under the hardware-in-the-loop concept. Collaboration with entities beyond Europe is several projectes had been established, especially in USA (MIT, EPRI) and Canada (Concordia University, Polytechnique Montreal).
